Texas Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA)
We are a USPS-certified Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA) serving Texas businesses and individuals who want secure mail handling, a professional business street address, and privacy that keeps personal addresses from becoming public record.
What Is a Texas CMRA?
A Texas CMRA is a private mail service registered with the United States Postal Service. A CMRA accepts mail for clients at its physical location and then either holds it for pickup, physically forwards it to you, or provides digital mail scanning and forwarding.
Why should I use a Texas CMRA address?
- Privacy & Professionalism: Keep your personal address off public business listings and use a credible Texas business street address instead
- Mail Security: Your business mail is received securely at our facility and handled with care
- Accessibility: We use digital mail scanning to forward images of mail to your secure account. Review it anytime, anywhere from your phone or computer
- Flexible Options: Choose from a variety of mail scanning packages to fit your needs and budget.
A CMRA is especially useful for entrepreneurs, remote workers, frequent travelers, small businesses, and home-based businesses who want a reliable and credible address without leasing an expensive office space.
Texas Registered Agent vs. CMRA: What’s the Difference?
It’s important to know that a Texas Registered Agent and a CMRA service are not the same thing:
- Texas Registered Agent: A person or entity that each business is required to appoint on Texas business formation documents to receive official legal notices and service of process. A registered agent must also maintain a physical Texas street address and be available at that address during normal business hours.
- CMRA Service: A mail-receiving and address service that can be used for all your business and personal mail, but it can not replace the legal role of a registered agent. A CMRA service is a great solution for all your general mail but it does not meet the requirements for registered agent duties.
If you are forming a Texas LLC or corporation, you will still need to appoint and maintain a Texas registered agent. What better way to get the benefit of both kinds of service than with Independent Texas Registered Agent! As a licensed Texas registered agent, and certified CMRA, we can handle all your business formation and mail handling needs.
How Our Texas CMRA Service Works
At Independent Texas Registered Agent, we are certified with the United States Postal Service to receive mail on your behalf. Here’s how we do it:
- Use Our Address & Your Assigned Suite Number: Have all your business or personal mail (envelope mail only, no packages) sent to us for processing.
- Access Your Mail: We open your mail, scan it, and upload the images to your secure online account. Sign in to view your mail from your phone or computer anytime, anywhere!
- No Junk Mail: We filter out the junk, so all you get is the important stuff.
- Mail Forwarding Request: Need the original copy of your mail? We store your mail for 50 days from receipt. Use your online account to request it mailed out to you for a small shipping & handling fee.
- Professional Business Identity: Use your Texas CMRA address on business cards, websites, and marketing materials for a polished, credible look your clients will trust.

For security reasons, we do not offer physical mail pickup. You can have mail items physically forwarded to you for an additional fee. We cannot accept and hold packages for you. You will need to have packages sent directly to you.

Texas CMRA Service FAQs
Do I have to submit the Form 1583 to get Texas Registered Agent Service?
No, you do not have to submit Form 1583 if you only want Texas registered agent service. As a state certified registered agent, we are authorized to receive your state business notices and legal mail on behalf of you and your business. If you need us to receive all your business or individual mail, that’s when the Form 1583 is required because that kind of mail falls outside of our role as a registered agent.
Do I need to get Form 1583 notarized?
CMRAs are allowed to verify a 1583 in place of the notary requirement, so we’ll handle the authentication of your form to make the sign up process super easy for you.
Can I use one Form 1583 for more than one business?
No, you will need to submit a Form 1583 for each business or individual using CMRA services.
Does a CMRA service accept mail from all mail services?
Yes, a CMRA service can accept mail from USPS, UPS, DHL, FedEx, and more.
Do CMRAs accept packages?
Some CMRAs do accept packages, but it’s up to each agency to decide to do so. At Independent Texas Registered Agent, we do not accept packages. If you are having a package shipped to you, you will need to have it sent to a different address.
Can I use a CMRA if I don’t live in the USA and I’m not a US citizen?
Yes, non-US citizens who do not live in the USA can still use a CMRA, as long as the ID and proof of address requirements are met (see above). Non-US addresses are perfectly acceptable.
Can I use the same document for both ID and proof of address?
No, you will need to provide a picture ID and a separate document for proof of address.
